Reflections on Sports in Brew City and the Dairy State.
Orangebloods.com: Nebraska regents have informally agreed to leave for the Big Ten. A formal announcement will come Friday.
Something tells me the Pac-10 is going to come out of this mess better than the Big 10.
That very well could be, but Nebraska will improve the Big 10. Will the super conferences be a pressure for Notre Dame to join? If so, the Big 10 wins.
Would you rather have Notre Dame or Texas, because the hot rumor is the Pac-16 gets both Texas and Texas A&M.
I don't really like the expansion, but I would love a massive money dump into the Big Ten Network to make it a real, viable network. To that end, I really hope they add East Coast teams (and hopefully they have hockey teams).
As a football season ticket holder, I hope they stop at Nebraska. I think the geography split to make up the divisions is obvious ... with Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Northwestern likely to be in the west. Assuming an 8 game Conference schedule, that means 3 teams from the East will be off their schedule every 2 years, many of whom are the games Wisconsin fans salivate over (Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan)particularly given their usual lackluster Non-Conference schedule. For every 2 teams they add, the less often they will play teams from the east(again assuming an 8 game Conference Schedule), and you know that Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State are going to wind up in the same division if ND joins (Which is only going to happen if the Big East starts to implode, I think). It will be Purdue, Michigan State and Indiana getting pushed west with each team from the East added. The idea of seeing Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State at Camp Randall even less often than we already do is not very exciting to me as a Season Ticket holder. Even with 12 teams, its likely you would only get those teams in Madison once every 4 years. Having Nebraska will be a nice add to the Badgers home schedule every two years, and it helps helps offset it a bit. I also like the idea of a Big Ten Championship game. But once you get beyond 12 teams, you're looking at a bunch of teams, aside from ND, that do nothing for me ... Missouri, Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers ... bleh. Ok for Basketball maybe ... but does nothing for me for Football.
