Bullpen Usage

Innings thrown by Carlos Villanueva (WHIP - .886, ERA - .61, ERA+ - 678), Todd Coffey (WHIP - 1.35, ERA - 2.70, ERA+ - 154), and Manny Parra (WHIP - 1.53, ERA - 4.15, ERA+ - 100) =

41

Innings thrown by Trevor Hoffman (WHIP - 1.800, ERA - 11.70, ERA+ - 36), Latroy Hawkins (WHIP - 1.714, ERA - 9.26, ERA+ - 45), and Claudio Vargas (WHIP - 1.622, ERA - 5.84, ERA+ - 72) =

34

Maybe we should try relying a bit more on the first 3 and a bit less on the latter 3. Note also that the innings thrown by the latter 3 have almost certainly been higher leverage innings.

If you use Coffey in the ninth inning of a tied game you might not be able to use him in the sixth during a blowout.

Think, Paul, think!

Bullpen usage is driving me crazy this year. I almost woke the wife up yelling at the TV late last night.
