I’m not going to tell you that Cappy is going to show up and be an All-Star and save the season. I’m not going to tell you that he isn’t going to hurt himself again. I will tell you that:
1. Cappy > Suppan and a bunch of other guys.
2. Cappy is cheap.
3. You need pitchers.
4. He might be quite good.
5. Even if he is bad, he will still be better than Suppan.
They have to call him up in 4 days or he can become a free agent. They must do this.
Kameron Loe has an out clause on the 1st too.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with Cappyfest is that I have a more vivid memory of Cappy being crappy in '07 than I have of him being decent before that. And his 90ish fastball then is mid-80s now.
ReplyDeleteI don't have high hopes for Cappyfest.
Tom H. actually has it about right here: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/94926489.html
ReplyDelete"Or the Brewers could do the right thing and cut two pitchers who have become extraneous in the bullpen -- Jeff Suppan and Claudio Vargas. Suppan, as we have discussed many times, has become a $12.5 million mop-up man, a fallen starter used mainly when games have gotten out of hand. Can the Brewers afford to keep Suppan, merely because of his salary, at the expense of using other useful pitchers?"
I'd say Doug Davis has to be in the chopping block discussion too, but Suppan and Vargas are the obvious guys to go.
