Opening Day

I've been sunburned before on opening day, but that's because I have the unique ability to burn in 45 degree overcast weather. This, however, was the first legitimate sun burn I've ever gotten on April 5th.

They opened the lots at 9:10 this year, which provided ample time for grilling our grass fed burgers and brats, and perhaps it was just the parking lot we ended up in, but bathrooms were not in short supply for once. The guys next to us who brought their own toilet didn't even have much demand. Last year the going rate (heh) was ten bucks.

And really, it wasn't a terrible game. Good defense by the Rockies snuffed out a few potential rallies, but we saw good contact, an excellent game from Carlos Gomez, and really, would it be opening day if Rickie Weeks didn't get plunked?

Gallardo struggled with control a bit, and his strikeout pitch didn't seem to be there, but he pitched well enough.

Opening day is always a blast. A win would have capped things off nicely, but it's hard to spoil a 72 degree sunny day in early April.

  1. Ditto on the sunburn remark, everyone in our group left the game a bit on the red side. I was in Molitor (Giants) lot and they only had 8 portapotties for the entire thing, which seemed a bit odd.

  2. My only gripe is Edmonds falling asleep and getting doubled off. I expect that kind of brainiac baserunning from Gomez, not from the 40 year olds.

Oh, and Gallardo not helping Zaun on that wild pitch was annoying as well.

  3. I think we were in Yount. We had a big bank near to us, and a few others scattered around. 8 for all of Molitor is crazy.

  4. The wild pitch bugged me more. I'll actually cut Edmonds some slack on that one, I thought it was going to get down too.

  5. I'd cut Edmonds some slack if I hadn't witnessed some sloppy baserunning from him Saturday as well. A little too wide around first on a single, and he gets picked off going back to the bag.

  6. Edmonds is going to have to show me he cares after that idiotic "I don't know if I'll accept an offer" comment. That guy gets zero slack.

The wild pitch was SUPER annoying though. Zaun did the right thing and immediately looked to Yo, who offered zero help. Gotta talk, Kid!!

  7. Yeah, if Carlos Gomez keeps going 4-for-5, I'm going to need to find somebody else to loathe. Edmonds is the leading candidate.
