Please Do Not Trade "Real" Prospects

This team is not a contender, not really. Do not trade Gamel, Salome or Escobar for anything. Trade Hart, Hardy, Parra or anyone else in the farm system if something decent comes along for a player with a contract through 2010. Make no trades for someone who is not club-controlled beyond this season.

I'm not giving up on the Brewers, but I am giving up on the notion that a single player will all of a sudden vault them into contention. Right now the Brewers have a single starter in Gallardo, no consistent performer in the rotation behind him and a four man pen in Stetter, DiFelice, Coffey and Hoffman (you may not remember him, he is the Brewers closer). You can't win with staff consisting of 5 dependable arms.

The Brewers will need to make some serious changes going into 2010. It'll be a hell of an off-season.

I couldn't agree more with your assessment. May be three weeks ago you could have convinced me that trading the farm for Halladay would have been a good thing. But now, I agree, Hardy, Hart, Parra, Hall, etc... all can go. But prospects, especially the ones you mentioned, NO.

I'm also coming to the conclusion that Mark A. needs to make a massive offer to Prince. I don't know if him leaving is a fore gone conclusion, but I'd like to see him take a stab at him with a BIG amount. I'd be curious to hear what others have to say about that.

  2. Brewers should be sellers not buyers

  3. I think there is room for both. Guys like Hardy/Hart are always going to be more valuable as deadline trades since they can potentially fill a void for a contender who has a struggling OF/SS. However the Brewers should be "buying" mid level pitchers with multi-year deals...if they exist. Hart/Hardy + Salome should be able to get a competent middle of the rotation guy.

Sellers though implies they have people who it makes sense to sell. Who would that be? Hoffman and Cameron are at the top of the list, but I really think the Brewers can and should resign Cam.

  4. I think there is value in Hardy, Hart, and Cameron.

Plus it seems each time there is discussion about a trade the team wants a SS in return. Just a shame Hardy is stinking it up. I wish he would have gone on one of his hot streaks two weeks ago.

  5. Yeah, but Cameron is better than anyone who they can get to replace him so trading him doesn't make sense, unless they aren't going to make a play to resign him.
