Well the Brewers are playing their final spring training game in Arizona today. They have a couple of fake games at Dodgers Stadium this weekend and then the Regular season starts in San Francisco on Tuesday. I'll be in the Bay Area next week so I'll be catching Gallardo's first start on Wednesday and the next game on Thursday before getting on the red-eye to make it back to Milwaukee in time for the home opener. Oh, and I'm going to the game on the 11th too. Attending four out of the first five is pretty good, no? Anyone else going to opening day (or any of the SF games)? I figure this is as good a time as any to make some season predictions:

What do you guys think?
I don't know how you put the Cubs 3rd. As far as I'm concerned they were a good team that got better. And I don't know how you put the Brewers first, who certainly appear to be only slightly better than last year's 86-win outfit (yeah, I know they won 90 but I'm discounting the CC factor and calling yo-Sheets a wash).
ReplyDeleteI'm in the camp, however, that the Reds are a serious potential WC contender, as are a bunch of teams. In fact, the only teams I'm immediately dismissing from wild-card contention are Pittsburgh, San Diego and the Marlins. Probably Houston too, in spite of Cecil Cooper's belief that he's managing a 100-win team.

Tracker,
ReplyDeleteThe guys on the Baseball America podcast predicted the Cubs to be this years Detroit Tigers (and the hose of Baseball Today echoed those sentiments). There seems to be a bit of a Cubs backlash going on.
I'll still be picking them to win the division. I'll post mine tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteYeah, it couldn't have worked out better. I just happen to be in SF that week for work and the deposition I'm covering has been ending early so the Wednesday and Thursday games are totally doable. Sadly, the first game is probably too early to catch, but I might give it a shot depending on how things go.
And I'm with E. The Cubs are the team to beat in the central, but they are fragile. Just a little misfortune and they go from great to shitty real quick.
I bet AT&T park will be frigid better bring a coat. I am very jealous
ReplyDeleteNick Markakis as MVP? He could lead the league in WARP, WPA, etc., he's not winning MVP on a last place team. I suppose if you were picking who you thought would deserve your MVP vote, its more possible. the AL East is so stacked its ridiculous. Ok here goes
