Mike Lamb has been signed. Sadly, there is no "this paves the way for a Bill Hall trade" silver lining. Haudricourt says the Brewers will go into 2009 with a Lamb/Hall platoon. I can only hope they hit 9th. He also seemed pretty stoked about Melvin choosing Lamb over Branyan, since it'll cut down strike outs. It will also severely reduce the clubs on-base average and power numbers.
But hey, weak ground outs are pretty cool too, right?
This is downright depressing, but not as depressing as 90 losses will be if this and Todd Coffey are the biggest splashes the moustache is planning on making.
We kept the wrong suit.

I like Todd Coffey.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, you're right. As you said, we kept the wrong suit. Jack Z pounced on Branyan and we are excited to keep Lamb and Hall. Damn....
I have nothing against Todd Coffey, but the Brewers have very real problems and they just "solved" one by combining two separate pieces of shit into one big shit pile.
ReplyDeleteI think third base was probably the most realistic spot that the Brewers could significantly improve this off-season. Somehow, they managed to make the spot exponentially worse.
Perhaps they are counting on Gamel? But word on the street is that he's just not going to make it at third with his glove.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually shocked that Kerry Wood is not a Brewer. I'm not even the biggest fan of the idea, but the guy likes being around here, and he shouldn't be too expensive.
I love the Wood to the Brewers idea. Problem is he'd be an upgrade, and apparently that is anathema to Melvin. Also, Wood is going to sign with Cleveland for two years.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget about Jorge Julio.
Andrew Baggarly, the SF Giants beat writer has a blurb on his blog that the Brewers are the front runner to sign CC.

That's huge if true. The CC rumors are circling today.
ReplyDeleteI will believe CC has signed with the Brewers when I see him throw the first pitch on opening day.
ReplyDeleteUntil that moment I will not believe it.
He is going to a west coast team it just has to be decided which one.
