Sheets is good. And while Haudricourt and Sheets keep saying a return to the Brewers is highly unlikely, it's just not clear to me why. As Sheets has implied, are the Brewers making that call? If so, why? What's the matter with a guy who's averaged 28 starts a year and an ERA of 133+ over the last five. Do we already have too many guys like that?
But unlike all his other maladies, the elbow thing is a little troubling although it certainly makes him cheaper.
Anyway, moot point. We're gonna trade Hardy, Fielder and a PTBNL for Matt Cain. I read it on the internet.
I love me some D-Lowe. Too bad he's pitched so well lately though. It will make him pricier than I'd like.
Lowe was my name too.
I think Sheets and the Brewers are ready to just move on, to be honest.
Lots of middling names on the list though that can improve the rotation without breaking the bank.
"Ready to just move on" is a dumb reason.
I've seen Benson's wife naked. She's a real pretty girl.
I didn't say it was smart.
Tracker likes his women trashy. Good to know.
I mostly like em naked.
Three that caught my eye are Jason Jennings, Freddie Garcia, and Jon Garland.
If healthy, all can be extremely productive and eat a lot of innings and, by just showing up, would be an improvement over Suppan.
Probably a stretch to say Jennings today is better than Suppan. Two years ago? Sure.
Garland/Garcia? Meh.
Garland isn't too far removed from two 18-win seasons and has a career WHIP of 1.38.
Garcia, if healthy, is still a pitcher who's 41 games over .500 for a career and has a WHIP of 1.295.
I'm not sold on WHIP as a measurement of effectiveness but the last two seasons, Suppan's WHIP has averaged 1.52.
Looking up Jenning's stats, I'll concede that point. ew.
Regardless, both Garland and Garcia are younger versions and would be nice depth to the back of the rotation.
Garcia has pitched in 14 games over the last two years. If he is dirt cheap and will sign a 1 or 2 year deal I'd consider it.
Garland has some ugly trends. Walks are up, k's are down, and WHIP is rising.
I could not care less about wins. I can honestly say I have no idea what his record is, as it doesn't indicate in the slightest how he has performed.
But yeah, as back of the rotation guys they aren't terrible. I was more wondering if anyone saw any hidden gems they'd like to defend.
It's hard to imagine any scenario in which an improvement over Suppan is realized. We owe him $27 mil. He's a starter on this team till he gets hurt or he completely and thoroughly sucks himself out of the rotation. He's far more likely to suck here, suck there, then mix in a decent start against the Pirates or some have-not so you don't give up on him, till the end of the season, when you realize he's drained the lifeblood out of your baseball hopes and dreams.
Thanks Tracker, just had a Jeffrey Hammonds flashback.
Try thinking about naked ladies instead.
ew, Margaret Thatcher naked on a rainy day.
I think I need rehab
Why go all the way back to Jeffrey Hammonds when you have a perfectly useless (and expensive) Bill Hall
Margaret Thatcher. Naked. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Then I threw up in my mouth a lot, and then I threw up out of my mouth and onto my desk. Then I shit my pants. Then I sharpened pencils and stabbed them into my eye sockets repeatedly, and have taken to running around the office screaming, "Mine Eyes! Mine Eyes!"
You bastard. Now I can't see and stink like hell. Thanks for that.
Sabathia jumps out at me, so does Clemens, Smoltz and Lackey....
But in a real world I like Randy Wolf as an affordable, serviceable option.
Low WHIP, >2 career K/BB and even better.
Not very sexy but affordable
I do what I can. I'm simple caveman.
When I see a solar eclipse, like the one I went to last year in Hawaii, I think 'Oh no! Is the moon eating the sun?' I don't know. Because I'm a caveman -- that's the way I think.
Supposedly the 'Stros are going to made a big push to sign Wolf (and Sheets actually). We'll see how that turns out, but if they bid his price up? No thank you.
This is basically a giant list of also-rans who are going to get undeserved Washburn like money (for those of you that remember, yes, I wanted to give Washburn a massive contract). I'm perfectly happy with the Brewers making a huge play for CC then waiting til the market is set to pick up whatever is left off of this pile when they miss the Sabathia train.
Bring back Glendon Rusch.
