You're the new manager, what do you do?

If you were in Dale Sveum's position and had just been handed the keys to the Milwaukee Brewers with 12 games to go in a tie for the Wild Card, but in the midst of a terrible downward slide, what would you do? What changes would you make? Who would lose their starting job? Who would move into the rotation, or out of the rotation? Could you squeez another start out of CC? Would you make Gagne a bat boy? Or would you just stay the course?

  1. I'd start Gamel and platoon where it made sense.

    Gagne would be exiled.

I'd go to a three man rotation if possible.

Salome would pinch hit as soon after the 5th as possible (while I don't put a ton of stock into calling a game well, I do into calling a game poorly, and supposedly Salome is completely lost behind the plate).

  2. I'd do the following

    Rotation:
    9/16-Sabathia
    9/17-Sheets
    9/18-Bush
    9/19-Suppan
    9/20-Sabathia on 3 days rest
    9/21-Sheets on 3 days rest
    9/22-OFF
    9/23-Bush
    9/24-Sabathia on 3 days rest
    9/25-Sheets on 3 days rest
    9/26-Suppan
    9/27-Bush
    9/28-Sabathia on 3 days rest

That's 4 starts for CC, 3 for Sheets, 3 for Bush and 2 for Suppan.

Parra and McClung are your inning eaters if something falls apart.

Bullpen is CV in the 7th (and 8th if he's on), Mota in the 8th, Torres in the 9th and Shouse in situational lefty situations.

Gagne is the new Bernie Brewer.

Rivera catches every other day. Salome comes in if we need runs on a day that Kendall started.

Joe Dillon starts at 3rd (unless Branyan comes back, in which case Dillon and Branyan plattoon). If we need runs after a few innings, we roll the dice on Gamel.

    Ray Durham at 2nd.

Rickie Weeks and Bill Hall wear the Polish Sausage and Hot Dog costumes.

  3. Switch sheets and Suppan on the 25th and 26th and Sheets will be on full rest and nothing else changes.

  4. Yeah, I suppose that would work too.

  5. Is it too much to ask Robin to play?

  6. Yeah on Riverra. I think Kendall pitched 27 innings in 36 hours in Philly. That's just dumb.
