A few of your points I must address, Robert Redford not a likely athlete playing the part. Joe Montana doesn't look like a quarterback and Larry Bird not a basketball player except for his height. The doughnut may or may not have had poison on it. Coincidence perhaps. The bat was a symbol of hope and faith and had power only through Roy's passion. That passion came out when he realized he had a son watching. As for slutty girls making him weak. It was Roy's soul that needed more than a physical relationship can provide, he needed love. Call it guilt or emptiness, but his childhood love brought him back to the purity he once had and needed. It is a movie that we can escape into with hopes to dreams. And that is what I want. If I want real life stuff, I'll watch the news, but I prefer to be taken away from reality into a world that makes me feel good, even if it is improbable.
